Young Leaders Network

For A Brighter Future

Initiative for Leadership Development and Youth Empowerment (iLead360) better known as Young Leaders Network came into existence as an umbrella accommodating the great graduates of the stupendous Young Leaders Development Project (YLDP) Bauchi State in 2009 and later became an arm of the National Endowment for Democracy (NED) funded ‘EMERGE’ Project managed by YMCA Bauchi with the mission of building and empowering young people for social and community development. Today, the organization is leading in leadership development for youth and women, strengthening their capacity to participate effectively in governance process.

Education For All

We are in our third year of running a USAID funded educational project as a sub grantee with the Northern Education Initiative plus (NEI+) in Alkaleri Local Government Area of Bauchi State. We established Non Formal Learning Centers (NFLC) in different communities, were we then enrolled Out of School Children between the ages (6-12 ) as learner for a period of 7 months.

The learners would be impacted with basic knowledge and discipline on reading, numeracy, writing and life skills by our educated facilitators who usually hail from the community.

Since it is usually their first year learning formal education their native language is used during the teaching sessions. Hausa or Fulfilde are the two languages mostly spoken in our learners communities.

Governance

One of the dividends of democracy is involving the electorate in Governance. Sadly, people are only involved during elections which is only one of the numerous parts of governance. Young Leaders Network seeks to empower people to be more involved in the decision making processes in governance. We do this by encouraging the participation of youths and women in politics, decision making and advocacy for inclusive governance.

Young Leaders Network also builds the capacity of its beneficiaries with the knowledge of Human rights, Civic rights and responsibilities, social justice, accountability processes and the building of local coalitions. The success stories recorded during these engagements are aired to the general public through publications and radio programs. This helps in amplifying our voices and advocacies.

So far, YLN has engaged and trained over 500 youths and women in 9 Local Government Areas within Bauchi and Nassarawa states where our Governance project is running.

Leadership Development

The cry for including young people in politics and governance at large is often countered by the dearth of young people who are equipped with the necessary leadership skills to shoulder the responsibilities that come with leadership. Seeing this need, Young Leaders Network has risen to fill the gap by providing leadership trainings for young people, both men and women through its iLead School of Leadership and Civic Engagement, Young Leaders Development Program among others.

The goal is to empower young people with requisite knowledge and skills to model effective leadership. To achieve this, we are raising well informed and vibrant youths with good leadership qualities, institutionalizing leadership culture in Youths and build leaders in them in all spheres of profession in Life and building Young people who are able to lead themselves and others effectively.
